Two Bombshells and Bacall

A few photos from How To Marry A Millionaire (1953) with Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe, and Lauren Bacall. Oh, William Powell, David Wayne and Rory Calhoun are also in it.

How To Marry A Millionaire was the first film photographed in Cinemascope though it was the second released. (The Robe came out first)

During filming, Betty Grable informed Darryl F. Zanuck, studio head of Twentieth Century-Fox, that she would not finish the remaining five years of her contract. As a result, Grable was demoted to second billing after Marilyn Monroe. Grable returned only once Fox to star in How to Be Very, Very Popular (1955), a vehicle in which Marilyn had refused to appear and Grable should have passed too.

And some fun trivia: In How To Marry A Millionaire, Grable’s character also makes a reference to her real-life husband, trumpeter Harry James. When her date turns on the radio to some jazz music she says: “That’s Harry James, and I oughta know Harry James.”
